Working horses produces a tremendous amount of energy. Only a small percentage of this energy is used for work; most is released as heat. If this heat is not dissipated quickly, it causes the horse's internal body temperature to rise at a rapid rate, and a horse can be severely stressed. In cold weather, heat may dissipate too quickly and muscles become chilled and cramped. Cooling down carefully helps your horse's heart rate and breathing to return towards normal gradually and helps prepare muscles for the next exercise session. For hot weather, we recommend Wick 'n Dry™ fabric. Cooling out safely, moving a horse to shade and making sure it is well hydrated can be augmented with an antisweat sheet that wicks sweat away from the skin, where it can evaporate and cool the horse further. Our sheets are super wicking, and very lightweight, helping your horse feel and look great. And because they also have a stain resistant finish, they will stay looking great longer. Better than scrim before the class; better than a traditional Irish knit after. Wool and synthetic fleece are the standards for winter cooling down. But we've come up with something even better! Equisweat™ was developed in Germany for equine athletes. The plush fabric marries the best of synthetic technology with natural properties. The fabric wicks sweat away from the horse, reducing drying time and insulates with an inner layer of cotton, so the horse cools down without drafts. Equisweat™ sheets wash and dry easily, but unlike fleece, they do not build static electricity, and hay and hair shakes out and doesn't get stuck. |
